Bohol links with NIA for water projects

The provincial government of Bohol links with the National Irrigation Administration
(NIA) in developing water projects that will not only improve the irrigation system here
but also provide potable water to communities.
In an interview, Provincial Agriculturist officer-in-charge Dr. Larry Pamugas said Gov.
Arthur Yap and NIA Regional Director Wilson Lopez met recently to discuss how the
provincial government and the NIA can work together for water projects.
The provincial government is linking with the NIA to tap the latter’s expertise in looking
for ways to find water that can boost the irrigation and also help look for potable water.
Finding potable water sources is something the Provincial Government is working on for
the past few months.
The water resources are not just critical in agriculture but also to sustain the needs of
the people.

The ultimate goal, Pamugas said, is to ensure the province is able to have a stable
water supply.
Water supply is a huge problem for Bohol especially when there is the occurrence of El
Niño phenomenon.
Last year, the province had to declare a state of calamity due to scarcity of water supply
experienced in several towns in Bohol.
