BM Garcia pushes for an anti-discrimination bill to protect frontliners Joint report by DCR, DSA, GAB

Second district board member Frans Gelaine Garcia is pushing for a measure to protect frontliners against discrimination. Garcia introduced the measure, in a privilege speech, during the last regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 according to reports reaching the Bohol Tribune. Garcia in her speech said that there have been instances of discrimination shown against frontliners, with some getting evicted from their homes according to several accounts that can be obtained both in traditional and social media. She added that there is a need to protect these frontliners from humiliation, rejection, harassment, and other forms of discrimination. Recently, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged all local government units (LGU) nationwide to pass and enforce an anti-discrimination ordinance to protect the frontliners. Reports said that the DILG is asking the LGUs to create the necessary legal framework to protect the frontliners who are risking their own lives in the fight against the spread of the Covid 19 virus.
