Buenavista mayor Dave Duallo is honest enough to say that his town is not ready to become a quarantine site for repatriated Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The mayor made this revelation in an interview over DYTR’s radio program, “Newsmakers ug Uban Pa” today, Monday, May 11, 2020 and anchored by Bohol Tribune Editors Ardy Araneta-Batoy & Gloria Leodivica Araneta. In the interview, Duallo admitted that his town does not have any fancy hotels or resorts that can be used as a quarantine site. Duallo added that there are only a few pension houses located in the town, which may not be at par with the expectations of the OFWs and which may not meet the standards of the Committee to choose the quarantine site. Apparently, the mayor is aware about the expectations of the OFWs. He made mention of the incident mwhen nearly a couple of weeks ago, a repatriated OFW posted on Facebook the alleged “sad” state of the quarantine site provided by the authorities in Tagbilaran City. The OFW, though, has apologized for his remarks about the site. Nonetheless, the town’s government is doing its best to come up with isolation and quarantine sites using local classrooms, the mayor bared in the interview. Additionally, he mentioned that in operating a quarantine facility, the biggest challenge is the implementation of the protocols. The mayor said that the strict implementation of the protocols is the key in the prevention of the local transmission of the virus. Meantime, he mentioned that his town has strengthened coastal security as a measure against the entry of people who may be virus carriers from nearby Cebu. Moreover, he asked Gov. Art Yap for extra police personnel to help guard the town against any attempts from Cebu or other places to illegally enter our province. Buenavissta is near Cebu City and can easily be accessed by sea transportation. Further, Duallo said that the town already had as many as 287 persons under montoring (PUM). But this number has been reduced to zero, Duallo said. Duallo also thanked the bolstered coastal security in the town. The mayor placed special focus on coastal security as his town’s contribution to prevent a huge outbreak of Covid infection in the province.(DSA)
