Boholanos have been clamoring for transparency of the results of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests of Boholanos whose specimens are brought to Cebu. In this connection, The Bohol Tribune’s managing editor, Ardy Araneta-Batoy, early morning on Saturday, May 16, conducted on social media an informal survey with this question:

UYON KA BA SA LAKANG SA MGA LIDERES UG KADAGKUAN SA PANGAGAMHANAN NGA ITAHO UG IBALITA NGADTO SA PUBLIKO UG KATAWHAN ANG TANANG RESULTA SA PCR TEST SA MGA BOL-ANON: MA POSITIVE O NEGATIVE MAN KINI?
(Are you in favor of the move of the leaders in Government to announce to the public all results of the PCR test of Boholanos: positive or negative)
? ”

  No, Ma’am Ardy. I maybe the only dissenting person here but I believe that the government has the mandate to protect everyone (I emphasize – ALL citizens) including those tested positive or are patients from society’s discrimination. In other situations, privacy itself is valued. In all cases, a person who is targeted by discrimination or bullying has lost their right to be safe, strong and free. Grabe man gani ang tawo makapanghinaway sa “bungi” og mga dili hitsuraan. Himoong kataw-anan. Unsa na kaha ang masakiton nga makatakod? The best prevention is to stay at home. (from: Steven Suganob)

  Yes Mam this needs to be publicly divulge but keep the names confidential and prosecute any soul who will unmask the patients names even addresses. The stigma against individuals with very communicable diseases be it TB, HIV, leprosy or anything else is life changing to some point devastating. They need to be empathized. Don’t forget Filipinos are generally bigot even the more educated ones. This is the sad truth. Naa gani molikay nimo kon naa kay cancer kay nagtuo ang majority of ignorantes that malignancies are communicable. So don’t ever tell your acquaintances or even friends that you are suffering from anxiety and more so with depression too. They will shun from you slowly. So for those who alleged that keeping the information openly from the public is engaged in some form of conspiracy to lie is drinking too much cool aid. I think those infected ones should also be made responsible enough not to expose themselves while the infectious process is still a suspect. Also make it criminal for infected individuals who knowingly infect or spread the dreaded disease. My thought… (from: Dr. Vidal Crescencio III)
