The question lingering in the minds of the Boholanos now is: “Where did the three medical workers who tested positive for Covid-19 as reported on Friday, May 15, contract the virus?”
This question surfaced following the news that a doctor and two medical technologists have tested positive of the Covid virus infection.
As this developed, no one, as of press time, can give a categorical answer.
However, conjectures and speculations could very well play in anybody’s mind pending the final announcement coming from the Department of Health (DOH), Region 7.
Without sounding definite, one can guess that there are two possibilities as to where the three persons got infected by the virus.
The first possibility is that they got the infection outside of Bohol, and the other possibility is that it was a case of local transmission where the virus was contracted in the province.
Bohol was rocked by the announcement last Friday night revealing that three medical workers tested positive of the presence of the virus in their respective bodies.
The test results were released on Friday after the three persons took the test last Wednesday in Cebu.
Further information revealed that the three (3) infected persons are reportedly asymptomatic and are now isolated also in Cebu.
A very reliable source who spoke to the Bohol Tribune on the condition of anonymity, revealed last night vital information about the situation as gleaned from a conversation between him and DOH 7 regional director Jaime Bernadas.
The same source said that as of last night, Gov Yap and the chief of hospital of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH), Dr. Mutya Kismet Tirol-Macuno, are already well aware of the situation and that contact tracing activities are being conducted in Cebu and in Bohol. .
The same source told the The Bohol Tribune that tracing activities have already been initiated with the three persons’ possible contacts in Cebu, naming a laboratory area and a classroom area as specific sites where the three medical persons might have met and interacted with other people.
Our source added, that the possible contact persons in Cebu were subjected to a rapid testing for the Covid-19 virus and the results of all these contact persons’ tests were negative.The same group of people, the source said, will undergo a PCR test to confirm the first results.
So, in the meantime, it the rapid test results would be considered as a gauge, it goes to show, although not conclusive, that all the contact persons in Cebu who tested negative, could not be the cause of the transmittal of the virus to any of the three medical persons referred to above.
Why the mention of Dumaguete? It is because one of the three medical workers came from Dumaguete on his way to Cebu.
Why the mention of Bohol? It is because two of the three medical workers came from Bohol on their way to Cebu.
Why the mention of Cebu? It is because all of the three are now stationed in Cebu for an official business.
As of press time, nothing is definite and conclusive, yet, as to where the virus was contracted. One can only say, “If only the virus could speak!”
Gov. Yap, from his end, has assured the Boholano people that all the three are now isolated in Cebu and are well taken care of. Yap is also asking the cooperation of the Boholanos by way of practicing aggressive protection and imploring the help of the Almighty Father to ease us out of the burden brought about by the pandemic.
