LGU-Tagbilaran gives cake, cash gifts to PWDs celebrating birthdays

Despite the challenges of the Covid 19 pandemic, the city government of Tagbilaran is still thinking about the Persons with Disabilities (PWD). Starting the month of June, the city government will start giving cakes and cash gifts to PWDs who are birthday celebrators

The head designate of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), Cleofe Polistico, said that all PWDs who are registered residents of the city will receive the incentive. In fact, City mayor John Geesnell Yap II has pledged his all-out support to assist the PWDs.

“We have been mindful of our PWDs. We have continuously engaged their participation in various activities like livelihood trainings, workshops, and capacity buildings. We recognize their valuable contribution and we always look forward to assist them in whatever way we can. Hopefully, this incentive will provide the needed push to their aspirations,” Yap said.

A measure from the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) outlines the specific incentives for the PWDs. The ordinance provides incentives to all PWDs, differently-abled under the age of 59 years old, and registered residents of Tagbilaran City. These people have to be also registered with the PDAO and they should be holders of PWD IDs issued by the local government unit (LGU) of Tagbilaran.

To be considered as a recipient of the incentive, the PWDs need to submit a properly filled-out form with parental consent. This is in the case of PWDs who are minors. They also have to submit a 1×1 sized photo together with a medical certificate stating the disability of the PWD. Other requirements include: barangay residence certificate, voter’s certification from the city Commission on Elections, and birth certificate issued by the Local Civil Registrar or the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

According to an information from the city, the birthday cake and the cash gift will be delivered to the PWD right at his/her the doorstep. Aside from the cake and the cash gift, PWDs may watch a movie for free once a week in movie theaters accredited by the city government.
