Chatto says Bohol as the model for “new normal” is a huge challenge for province

First district Rep. Edgar Chatto says being a model province for a new normal entails a huge challenge for Bohol.

The solon gave the statement in a radio interview over “Newsmakers ug Uban Pa” program on Tuesday (June 2, 2020).

Chatto said the consideration of Bohol as model province for new normal, is a reflection on the kind of response the provincial leaders have to the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

Being a model for the new normal has its own challenges, Chatto continued.

The congressman said that one of the top reasons Bohol is seen as a model for the new normal is the lack of local transmission of the virus.

While Bohol already has positive cases, all of the cases are from outside and not as a result of infection coming from the local community.

As a model, it means Bohol is being looked up to by other provinces in terms of best practices.

It is possible that the province is eyed on as a model to pave the way for other provinces in terms of coping with the so-called “new normal”.

The province will be challenged in terms of preparedness, sustainability, and health concerns on one hand and on the other hand, balancing the needs of the economy.

The solon said that unless there would be a vaccine, returning to the old ways would be impossible at this time.

In case that a vaccine is ready and the pandemic shall have been over, the solon said it is important for the community to retain the positive behaviors and to practice what was learned while facing the challenges of the pandemic.

Moreover, Chatto revealed that a legislative measure is being forged by laying out the rules/regulations that will govern the new normal community, Chatto said.

The measure is still being tackled at the Lower House, the solon bared.

Chatto also said that he is unsure if, Bohol has been officially declared as a model for the new normal.

He said it is proper to ask the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) as the idea of naming the province as a model for the new normal is based on the pronouncements of IATF’s chief implementor Sec. Carlito Galvez in a press conference that happened several weeks ago.
