PAGASA: It’s official, the rainy season is here

The state weather bureau, Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) declares today, Friday, June 12, 2020 the onset of the rainy season in the country.

According to a report from CNN Philippines, the weather bureau said that Tropical Depression “Butchoy” with the occurence of scattered rainshowers, and the appearance of the Southwest Monsoon or the “Habagat” brought significant amounts of rain especially in the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas.

The state weather bureau further said that the weather events that happened of late are enough to satisfy the criteria “of the start of the rainy season.”

In a media briefing, Ana Clauren. PAGASA weather forecaster said there are parts of the country that will experience dry periods.

Butchoy is being eyed to become a storm in the next 24 hours.

Moreover, Clauren said the tropical depression is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility early Saturday morning.

Some areas in Luzon such as Zambales and parts of Pangasinan are now under Storm Signal No. 1, PAGASA’s weather forecast insaid.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected also in Bataan and the northern part of Palawan, PAGASA’s report said.

Meantime, residents of Western Visayas and the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila should expect moderate to heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

Butchoy is not expected to make any landfall, the state weather bureau said.
