Guv reaches out to CPG town’s island residents

Gov. Arthur Yap reaches out to the island residents whose island barangays are under the jurisdiction of Carlos P. Garcia (CPG) town to let them feel that the provincial government cares for them especially in this time where the province and the whole country are battling the Covid crisis.

According to a report from the Capitol, the governor visited on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, four (4) island barangays in CPG town namely Timolbo, Gaus, Butan, and Lapinig on Tuesday.

The governor visited the 4 island barangays with CPG town mayor Fernando Estavilla, CPG town vice mayor Nestor Abad, second district board member Frans Garcia, and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer(PSWDO) Carmelita Tecson.

Prior to the governor’s visit to the island barangays, the PSWDO distributed food packs to the residents of the island barangays, reports say.

It has been a policy of the current provincial administration to send help to the far flung barangays in the province especially in this time of the pandemic.

The reports also say that each household received food packs consisting of five (5) kilos of rice, and canned goods.

The governor took the opportunity to hear about the needs of the residents of the island barangays and to emphasize the need to practice social distancing and other health protocols in order to prevent the spread of the virus causing the Covid infection.

For her part, Garcia distributed 50 bottles of milk to 50 children in barangay Timolbo. The children are beneficiaries of the provincial government’s milk feeding program.

Moreover, she told the fisherfolks residing in the island barangays that the provincial government will purchase their fish catch so they would no longer face the health risk of going to Cebu just to sell their catch.

Currently, Cebu City is the epicenter of Covid infection in the country with more than 4,000 positive cases recorded.
