GCGMH clears air on “fall statement”

The Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) clears the air on the reported “fall incident” that happened within the hospital premises.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2020.

In a public advisory, GCGMH medical center chief Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno said that a patient “managed to open the bathroom window in one of the Isolation rooms of the Covid-19 wing.”

The statement did not mention what happened next, where the fall occurred, and why the patient fell in the first place.

Macuno just reported that, “Fortunately, after a thorough trauma assessment and diagnostic work-up, the patient did not sustain any major and debilitating injury. Initially anxious and in distress, the patient is now stable and is securely recuperating in the CoviD-19 Wing.” She added,”

The patient is now under the multi- disciplinary care of the Behavioural Sciences Service, the Covid-19 Medical Team and the Patient Safety Committee.” The medical center chief added:” While this is an isolated incident, GCGMH assures the public that the safety and needs of our patients always comes first. We shall issue updates as developments arise.”

The statement did not mention whether or not the incident was a suicide attempt.

The Bohol Tribune sent a text message to Macuno, and denied that what happened in the hospital was a suicide attempt. She even called the unverified reports as fake news. When asked if the incident was a suicide attempt, she said it was “fake news”.

A source told the Bohol Tribune that the patient jumped off from the second floor of the GCGMH building. The same source said that the person is a Moderate Acute Respiratory Infection (MARI) patient. The source added that per the doctor who attended to the patient, the latter was “anxious”. It was also revealed by the source that the patient involved in the fall incident had seen other patients having problem breath…
