Cebu councilor Cuenco dies

Cebu City councilor Tony Cuenco succumbs to Covid infection his son, James Anthony confirms today, June 27, 2020.

The announcement of the elder Cuenco’s death came minutes after rumors that the Cebu City councilor and former Cebu City representative circulated online, which his chief-of-staff earlier denied.

“Today, a great man has passed on. What is very shocking is the manner and the suddenness of his passing,” James in a Facebook post said.

“It happened so fast and has left us very shocked to realize that the good man that we have had the opportunity to have as our father (with my siblings Ronald, Antonio Jr. and Cynthia) and a good husband to my mother, Nancy, is gone,” he added.

The younger Cuenco said his father experienced mild fever and incessant coughing last June 18, 2020, so he was subjected to swab test on the same day.

The polymerase chain reaction result came out last June 20, 2020 showing a positive result for Covid infection.

James said it is hard to pinpoint where his father contracted the virus as he went out often in spite of the warnings.
