Sevilla police report arrest of alleged NPA rebel

Sevilla police are reporting they arrested an alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebel a day after the clash between government forces and communist rebels in barangay Bayawahan last Friday, June 26, 2020.

The report regarding the arrest was confirmed by Sevilla police station police station chief, Lt. German Soroño on Monday, June 29, 2020.

He identified the suspect as Crisologo Guimaras, 20, of Bingag, Dauis. The suspect was arrested last Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Reports said that the police seized from the suspect, one (1) rifle grenade and an improvised explosive device.

The same reports said that the suspect was spotted by law enforcers walking in an area about half a kilometer away from the encounter site in barangay Bayawahan.

The report added that the suspect was wearing a Philippine Army t-shirt when he was accosted by the authorities.

Soroño said that upon interrogation by police probers, the suspect admitted that he is among the 20 armed men that clashed with Army troopers last Friday, June 26, 2020.

It was further reported that charges have been filed against the suspect before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor. He is charged with illegal possession of explosives, unauthorized use of military uniform, and violation of general community quarantine.
