Panglao mayor Leonila Montero is asking the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to coordinate with the local government unit (LGU) prior to arriving here in Bohol, so that the LGU can properly manage their accommodations and also arrange their security while under quarantine.
Montero made the appeal in a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, as she pointed out that frontliners of the town are getting overburdened.
She explained that some of the frontliners are hardly having sleep just to ensure the arriving OFWs are being taken care of as they arrive in Bohol and ultimately settled in a quarantine facility in Panglao.
Montero expresses worry about the influx of the OFWs who are unable to coordinate properly with the LGU as this may result to the frontliners getting overburdened.
She said that the LGU cannot rely on the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) as the latter is always late in providing the manifesto or the names of the arriving OFWs.
At the same time, Montero aired the same appeal to locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROF) who should coordinate with the LGU before their arrival.
The lady mayor said that all mayors and Gov. Arthur Yap are having trouble with incoming OFWs, LSIs, and ROFs who are unable to coordinate prior to their arrival.
She is asking for consideration from the returning Boholanos and pleads for their cooperation as the province tackles the Covid challenge.
