Macuno confirms “community transmission” in Bohol

Medical center chief Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno confirms that there is already community transmission in Bohol, according to reports.

Macuno, the medical center chief of Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) said that she consulted infectious disease expert Dr. Ellan Salada that indeed that there is community transmission here in Bohol following the fact that there are two (2) cases of Covid infection that led to death and that these two (2) fatalities are neither locally stranded individuals (LSI) nor overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

The GCGMH chief said that every patient who is admitted in the hospital is presumed as Covid “positive”.

She also pointed out that another case that the public should be cautious of is the case in barangay Dampas. It has been known that a 13-year-old male tested positive for Covid as he had a close contact with another Covid positive, who is an OFW who went to Manila and got tested there via polymeraae chain reaction (PCR) test.

She said that the case is a ”perfect example” of community transmission.

She also revealed that the 5-year-old sibling of the 13-year-old positive patient who earlier tested negative for Covid, is now having an episode of diarrhea, which is a symptom of Covid infection.

The mother brought the 5-year-old to a local medical health facility only to be referred to the GCGMH.

Macuno expressed satisfaction that the city government, headed by the City Health Officer (CHO) said that the close contacts of the 13-year-old have been isolated and contained.

She reiterated the need to be aware and to follow the minimum health standards to prevent the spread of the virus.
