President Duterte warns the two (2) biggest telecommunications companies (telco) Globe Telecommunications and Smart Communications to improve their services to the public by December 2020 or else they can be expropriated.
In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday, July 27, 2020, the president threatened that he will be looking for ways, working with Congress, to close the 2 telcos should they fail to improve the quality of their services.
“Kindly improve the services before December. I want to call Jesus Christ to Bethlehem. Better have that line cleared,” he said.
Duterte said that he will be spent in improving the quality of telecommunications services in the country even without the 2 telcos and he will work with Congress to do it.
A third telco, Dito Telecommunications, is expected to come into the industry and challenge the 2 dominant telecommunications players in the country.
The president that he will be the one to “articulate” the anger of Filipinos over the alleged poor quality service being provided by the 2 dominant telcos in the country, and the telcos might not be elated on what he can do to the telcos.
