Guv hands cash assistance to 3 former NPA rebels

Gov. Arthur Yap hands cash assistance to four (4) former New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a ceremony, according to information released on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

The governor handed the cash assistance worth P50,000 to “Ka Arlene”, P 15,000 to “Ka Goliat”, P95,000 to “Ka Ernie” and P 75,000 to “Ka Asyong”. He turned over the checks to the former NPA rebels on July 25, 2020.

The cash grants were given to the former rebels under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).

These former rebels (FR) were youth organizers during their time in the underground movement.

The FRs surrendered their firearms and returned to the fold of the law after having been active in the communist movement.

The ECLIP is one of the ways for FRs to be reintegrated back to mainstream society and to the folds of the law. This intervention is being facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Army (PA). The ECLIP is a move by the government to end the local armed conflict that has continuously impacting the lives of the people in the countryside.
