New resort leads the way to tourism resurgence

A new resort in Bohol is positioning itself as one of the prime drivers that will lead the resurgence of the tourism industry here.

The new resort is eyeing a soft opening on September 16, 2020, according to a report from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

Modala resort manager Rommel Gonzales is looking at opening 50 out of the 126 rooms of the said resort. This will lead to a soft opening next month.

Modala Beach Resort is located at a premium area in barangay Doljo and it has decided not to accept locally stranded individuals (LSI) nor overseas Filipino workers (OFW). It will not also be used as a quarantine facility.

The decision was arrived at in order to prevent any stigma among customers who will later realize and think that the area was once used as a quarantine facility.

Due to the fact that the resort was never used as a quarantine facility, the resort was chosen as the host of Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat who recently visited Bohol.

Puyat stayed overnight at Modala and even attended a meeting of the members of the Provincial Tourism Council.

In preparation for the opening in the new normal, Gonzales said he is awaiting for the inspection team from the Department of Tourism (DOT). The inspection team will ascertain if  the resort has complied with health and safety standards and protocol.

Modala is looking to come up with tour packages, which will feature the different amenities of the resort, the report from the PIA said.

Guests are also able to buy stuff they need without having to make the trip to Tagbilaran. All the guests’ needs are available at the Modala Strip Mall, Gonzales said.

The report said that the there are some concessionaires who are yet to open their outlets as some of them are still unable to make it to the resort area due to the travel ban, the PIA report says.

In a press conference, Modala revealed the resort management is offering a special rate of P4,500 for those who want to stay in the resort, the PIA report bares.
