The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) releases the “no face shield, no boarding” policy in all public utility vehicles (PUV) here in Central Visayas region.
This means that the drivers of PUVs who will allow the boarding of passengers without face shields will be arrested.
LTFRB regional director Eduardo Montealto Jr., said the agency had to impose the order following the mandate from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), which meant to enhance the safety protocols to prevent coronavirus disease (Covid) virus transmission.
“ So, effective on the third Saturday of this month, all drivers, conductors, and passengers of PUVs are required to weak face shield in addition to the face mask,” Montealto said based on a report by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
Moreover, Montealto said that with the development, LTFRB is amending Memorandum Circular 2020-033 deleting the portion allowing eye protector, instead prescribes, the use of face shields of passengers who board PUV.
The violators will face the usual fine of P5,000 on the first offense, P10,000 for the second violation, and on the third offense, the penalty is a fine of P15,000 plus impounding of vehicle and cancellation of franchise.
“ As Covid has no known cure and vaccine available yet, the entire world is still battling to contain the spread of the deadly pandemic. We must do our share in Region 7,” Montealto said.
