Former Comelec chairman Brillantes dies of COVID infection

The former chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Sixto Brilantes, Jr dies. He was 80. He died on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Brillantes was a bar topnotcher as he placed 7th in the 1965 Bar Examinations, in that same year the late former Bohol OIC Governor Victor de la Serna, topped the bar examination, according to sources.

Moreover, he was one of President Duterte’s law professors in San Beda University (SBU).

Brillantes served as Comelec chairman from January 2011 to February 2015.

Reports say that Brillantes’ family confirmed on July 28, 2020, that the former Comelec chairman was admitted for coronavirus disease (Covid) infection.

According to Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, Brillantes passed away around 11 am on Tuesday.
