Bohol BSP leads way forward

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Bohol Council is no exemption as the country and world adapt and innovate amid impacts of the COVID pandemic.
The council, chaired by Cong. Edgar Chatto, held its Blended Basic Training Course for Troop Leaders through a virtual conference on Thursday, August 20, 2020.
The training course was aimed at strengthening the adult resources of the council particularly the unit leaders who will be implementing the Scouting Program. It also discussed continued program implementation despite the pandemic and introduced skills and strategies that can be used to teach learners online.
Chatto congratulated the BSP Bohol Council for being recognized as outstanding council scout executives in the country. He also thanked Bohol Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Bianito Dagatan, Tagbilaran City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Erwin Lagura, the Council Board and Council staff led by Hermes Angoy.
This is not the first time that the Council employed virtual means to further the scouting movement despite the community quarantine.
In July, the Council convened its annual council meeting with internet technology as medium.
The council assembled then in a virtual forum for its reports and recognition of outstanding performance by scouters and areas of operations.
Chatto had reported increased membership, attendance of Scouters to BSP camps and jamborees, assistance to those affected early on by the community quarantine.
No less than BSP President Obet Pagdanganan cited Bohol as one of most active, with top membership figures in the country and the council’s determination to pursue scouting. “Bohol is showing the way even in the response to COVID,” the BSP top official stated.
BSP Regional Director for Eastern Visayas Region Bienvenido Toledo said the Council is paving way for improvement of council operations, meeting the demands of time through flexible management learning system for adult leaders.
Amid the pandemic, the scouting movement is diversifying its activities to prioritize urban agricultural promotion, including backyard gardening and tree planting in addition to the promotion of Scouting values.
The council is also initiating the establishment of the BSP Bohol Camp and Climate Change Center.
