LGU-Panglao conducts coral transplantation activity

The local government unit (LGU) of Panglao conducts a coral transplantation activity in Barangay Bil-isan.

The activity was held on Thursday, August 19, 2020, a report from the LGU provided to The Bohol Tribune says.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and the Office of the Municipal
Mayor spearheaded the activity, the report bares.

The activity aims to help repair the coral reefs damaged by human activity. The said activity is analogous to reforestation efforts being done on land.

In a short program conducted before the activity started, Panglao mayor Leonila Montero delivered a brief speech and focused on the importance of the coral transplantation activity.

The program was hosted by John Paul Maslog, executive assistant to the mayor.

A short lecture about coral transplantation was delivered by Danilo Menorias, a senior diver and marine expert of the town’s MENRO.

Several volunteer groups joined the activity. The groups that joined the activity included the Rotary Club of Panglao Island, Panglao Association of Dive Operators, Rajah Sikatuna Eagles Club, Dive Rangers and a group of of dive instructors based in Panglao.

Lino Sumaylo, officer-designate of the MENRO, supervised the conduct of the activity.
