The Development Management Officer of the Department of Health (DOH) declares that as of the moment there is still no cure for the coronavirus disease and no treatment in addressing the symptoms of the disease.
Niel John Oclarit, made the declaration in a virtual presser on Thursday, Auguat 27, 2020.
Oclarit declared that there is no cure approved to treat Covid as cases of the disease are rising here in Bohol, of late.
He said that based on the pronouncements of the World Health Organization (WHO), in mild cases, the body is able to fend off the infection with the help of the immune system.
He added a Covid-positive person could no longer spread the virus after 10 days.
Patients with severe Covid cases may need to be treated for 14 days or more, he bared in the virtual presser.
As of the moment, health authorities are recommending prevention as the first line of defense against the virus.
Moreover, Oclarit made the declaration that there is no cure for the disease, despite the news regarding possible cure for Covid.
There have been some medicines already identified but Oclarit is letting medical doctors discuss the pros and cons of the use of these identified medicines.
It was also mentioned in the virtual presser that there are some medical practitioners pushing for hydrooxychloroquine.
Oclarit said that the use of hydrooxychloroquine is being discouraged, as it has been seen that the said medicine causes a lot of side effects.
Moreover, Oclarit mentioned remdesivir, which has been seen as more potent in curing patients suffering from Covid.
The drug remdesivir is now available at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital for the use of Covid patients suffering from severe condition, according to the hospital chief Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno.
However, the cost of the said medicine is astronomical as one vial costs as much as P9,000 and there is a need for 10 to 11 vials to obtain desired results, Macuno added.
