Gov. Arthur Yap reminded Bohol mayors to act aggressively against dengue fever during their regular meeting on Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Capitol.
He urged the Bohol mayors to act on the dengue fever problem to prevent a rise in dengue fever cases in the province.
Yap said that as of August 27, 2020, there are about 2,757 dengue cases recorded in Bohol since the start of the year 2020.
He added that 13 Boholanos have died from dengue fever since January 1, 2020, based on the data of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) as of August 27, 2020.
Moreover, Yap pointed out the importance of containing the dengue fever problem so it would not become a huge burden in the healthcare system and complicate matters as the province is also facing health threats posed by the coronavirus disease (Covid).
Just like Covid, dengue fever has no known cure and the vaccine for the disease has drawn controversy. The treatment for the disease is by managing the disease’s symptoms, health experts bare.
Currently, the most effective way to fight the spread of the disease is via prevention through the elimination of potential breeding places of mosquitos.
Dengue fever is caused by a virus staying in an infected mosquito, health experts say. The disease is spread through mosquito bites on humans.
