Police arrest OFW for escaping from quarantine facility in Mabini

Police in Mabini are reportedly able to arrest an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who escaped from the quarantine facility and returned to his home in barangay Tangkigan. The incident happened on Sept. 9, 2020, a police report provided to The Bohol Tribune says.

According to the police report, Mabini police station personnel were informed that allegedly an OFW escaped the quarantine facility in barangay Tangikan, Mabini.

The suspect is identified as a certain Archie Anggalon, 25, of barangay Tangkigan, Mabini town.

The report bares that the OFW is staying in a quarantine facility located in the said barangay and allegedly he intentionally escaped from his quarantine stay as he is a returning OFW. It was not mentioned how long the suspect has been in quarantine prior to the escape try.

Police immediately tracked the OFW and took him back to the quarantine facility.

He now faces charges of violation of Republic Act No. 11332 or the Law on Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health.

In a separate radio interview, Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) chief Col. Joselito Clarito said the incident is a bit odd as the suspect tried to use his brother as his replacement inside the quarantine facility. Although, the switch attempt was not mentioned in the police report.

Nevertheless, Clarito said the suspect will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as the latter placed public health and safety in peril in his escape try.
