The latest events from Panglao town

GOAL: PLASTIC-FREE BOHOL. Gov. Art Yap leads the coastal clean up in Doljo, Panglao. The event which took place on Sept. 18, 2020 was also attended by Panglao Mayor Leonila Montero, Doer Escoto of Bellevue, Philippine National Police (PNP), Coast Guard, Panglao Association of Dive Operators, Rotary Club of Panglao Island (RCPI), Special Action Force (SAF), Airport Police, Bohol Tourist Police Unit (BTPU), and the Philippine Navy team. This activity is part of Panglao’s participation in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) which is aimed at making a difference by ridding our shorelines of trash and debris that may harm the marine mammals. The provincial government and Panglao town are partnering with agencies and the private sector in raising people’s awareness on their need to protect the ecology and preserve marine life.

Panglao informal settlers get information on low-cost housing proj. Panglao Mayor Leonila P. Montero delivers a brief message during the series of orientation and organization meetings with informal settlers of the town. The meetings, which happened on separate days and venues, were attended by representatives from the National Anti-Poverty Commission, Social Housing Finance Corporation, and the Office of the Mayor handling the Barangay Affairs. The meeting with informal settlers from Barangay Tawala took place last September 9 at the Tawala Covered Court. Moreover, the informal settlers from Barangays Danao and Doljo conducted their meeting September 14, 2020 at the Panglao Cultural Center while those from Barangay Poblacion happened September 15, 2020 at the same venue. The orientation is intended to give light to informal settlers who wish to avail themselves of the proposed socialized low-cost housing project. This housing project is designed to be very affordable which is within the reach of the informal settlers and payable on a long term basis with very minimal monthly amortization rates. 500 Panglaoanons receive UCT from DSWD. Approximately, about 500 beneficiaries from the Municipality of Panglao are receiving the financial grant of the Unconditional Cash Transfer(UCT) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The payout or disbursement of the cash grant to pre-selected poor families happened last September 5, 2020, at the Panglao Cultural Center for beneficiaries from Barangays Looc, Bil-isan, Doljo, Poblacion, and Tangnan. While the other beneficiaries from Barangays Bolod, Danao, Libaong, Lourdes, and Tawala claimed their cash grants at Bolod covered court. Photo by: Deo Guden
