Cong. Edgar Chatto of the First District of Bohol, cognizant of the importance of education in any country, sincerely expresses his appreciation to the teachers as molders of the future especially when he congratulated the Department of Education (DepEd) for its efforts to educate the youth of the nation.
Chatto expressed his appreciation when he delivered a message during the virtual World Teachers’ Day and Civil Service Month celebrations led by Bohol Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Bianito Dagatan.
In his message, he described as heartwarming to know that learners are left in the caring hands of teachers.
He hailed the sacrifices, dedication and commitment of teachers whom he said are motivators and mentors paving the way for opportunities for children to explore possibilities in life.
He congratulated DepEd for the steps the agency has taken to adjust to the new normal.
“Whether it be virtual or face to face learning, the future of children rests on the role of teachers,” he said.
Chatto is optimistic of a better world with teachers working hand in hand with parents. The world will be a better place to live in if we are able to bring the youth to greater heights through education, he said.
In a recent budget hearing of DepEd, Chatto fully supported the agency’s aspiration to push for a higher budget allocation in next year’s General Appropriations Act.
“The national budget must be the primary resource for the present modes of learning particularly in terms of printing materials,” Chatto stated.
He emphasized that the Special Education Fund (SEF) and the Brigada Eskwela financial support are there to supplement the funds for education coming from the national budget.
“This way, teachers can focus on teaching and not on soliciting (resources) for the needed materials,” he explained.
The virtual event where Chatto was invited to deliver a message, was themed “Strengthening relationships for a meaningful service” and highlighted the national virtual search for Teachers Got Talent.
World Teachers Day’s observation is mandated through Republic Act No. 10743 and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). September is also the observance of Civil Service Month, pursuant to Proclamation No. 1050, series of 1997.
