DR. THEODORE “DOYET” ALABA DUMALUAN

The President of the Bohol Island Lions Club for Lion Year 2020-21.

Almost everyone thought he wanted to become a priest since he went to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary for his secondary education, after his elementary studies at the Holy Spirit School in Tagbilaran City.

However, after finishing high school, he proceeded to Cebu Velez College in Cebu City. This move led him to his medical studies at the Cebu Institue of Medicine (CIM). After graduation, he took the board examination for medical practitioners, passed it and finished his medical residency at the Cebu Velez General Hospital.

He is now a successful medical practicioner and is a renowned speaker in his EYE, EAR, NOSE, THROAT (EENT) and medical fields. To name a few of his speaking engagements, we have the following: he was Scientific Lecturer during the Philippine Dental Association – Bohol Chapter’s 44th Induction Ceremony in August 2018; he also spoke on the topic “Spheno-Palatine Syndrome” in the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians’ Midyear Convention on September 2018; in April 2019, he tackled the subject matter – “ ENT REFERRAL: Updates in the Management of Dizziness, TMJ Dysfunction and Bell’s Palsy during the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, Visayas Chapter.

He is not a stranger to outstanding awards and big projects. During his days at the Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM), he received the ESA recognition award for his Excellence in the Science of Anatomy. As a young doctor, he garnered the first place in an Inter-hospital Research Contest conducted by his medical institution. He also received the Bohol Medical Society (BMS) Community Service Award in 2007 including several other BMS awards after that year as an officer of the said aggrupation.

As an active member of the Bohol Island Lions Club (BILC), he earned the following titles with corresponding awards: Lions Service Award, Eyesight Program and Sportsman award in 2013; Lions Award for Ear Cleaning for Better Hearing in 2018; Lions awards in 2019 as 1st Vice President and as Project Chairman of the NO HUNGRY PUPIL SUSTAINABLE FEEDING PROGRAM; recognition and award as Project Chairman of the Glaucoma Screening Project, Nasal Care Against Covid 19 Project, and the Deployment and Maintenance of Floating Garbage Catchment Device.

His feat in sports has brought him to several places in the globe. He is a Runner, Kayaker, Dragon Boat Paddler/Enthusiast, and Mountaineer.

In Running. he is an active participant in both domestic and international marathons. Some of the running events he participated in include the following: the Schneider Electric Marathon 2016 in Paris, France; the TCS New York City Marathon 2018 in New York, USA; the Star Wars Run Singapore 2018 in Singapore and the BMW Berlin Marathon 2019 in Berlin, Germany.

In Dragon Boating, he always emerged as either the champion or the runner up in Local Dragon Boat Competitions held in Bohol, Iloilo, Boracay, Dipolog, Tacloban, Cebu and Butuan. In the international Dragon Boat Competition, he paddled with the Philippine Team in the following events: 1. The IDBF 12th World Dragon Boat Racing Championship 2015 in Ontario, Canada; 2. The Penang Pesta Dragon Boat Race 2014 in Penang, Malaysia; and 3. The Long Beach Dragon Boat Event 2017 in California, USA
In Kayaking he was first placer in the 125 km Kayak Marathon Single Open Class Cebu Bohol Crossing in 2009. He was also first placer in the Taal Lake kayaking competition way back. Not to be outdone, he circumnavigated Bohol Island twice; circumnavigated Cebu province, Negros Island, Camiguin, Siquijor, and crossed the Bohol- Limasawa Island twice.

Mountaineering is also another passion that he has. He participated in the International Climbs during the Mt. Kinabalu Summit – 4095.2 m climb in Kinabalu Park, Malaysia in July 2010.

Who is this gentleman we are featuring in this section?

He is the Founder and President of the Bohol Paddlers Association, Inc. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bohol Medical Options Group ( BMOG). Furthermore, he is a member of the Board of Directors and in-charge of the Ear Diagnostics Incorporated. This is aside from his being a member of the Board of Directors and Incorporator, (and current Treasurer) of the Dumaluan Beach Resort Corporation

To date, he has 2 innovations pending patency at the Intellectual Property office of the Philippines: one for approval and the other one for submission.

This 55 year old gentleman who has been in clinical practice for 25 years since 1995 was born in Tagbilaran City on December 31, 1964. His father, Engr. Teofilo B. Dumaluan, is from Panglao and his mother, Dalmacia A. Dumaluan (a nurse) is from Garcia-Hernandez. He is the 5th of eight (8) children and he is married to a very beautiful Tacloban born lady, Dr. Dorothy Gay M. Dumaluan, who is a Diplomate of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians. The couple is blessed with two (2) children: Dave Matthew, a 23 year old licensed medical technologist who is currently studying as a 2nd year medical student at the Cebu Institute of Medicine and Daniel Miguel, 19 years old and a 2nd year BS Entrepreneur student at the University of San Carlos.
