Sen. Go, Mayor Yap give cash aid to PWDs

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong“ Go, via a video call distributes cash aid and some prizes to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Tagbilaran City with Mayor John Geesnell Yap II actively participating.

The distribution which took place on Oct. 30, 2020 was reported to The Bohol Tribune by the City Media Bureau.

Aside from the aid and prizes, the PWDs were also treated to lunch by the organizers. The city PWDs in attendance were also given face shields and face masks, the same report from the City Media Bureau says.

Moreover, bicycles and tablet computers were raffled off as prizes during the event.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistant Secretary Jade Jamolod, Secretary Michael Dino, Sam Dela Pena, and lawyer Lessandro Maraom also joined the video call.

Mayor Yap has been in the forefront of championing the cause of the PWDs which aims to empower them through various livelihood trainings and programs.

Likewise, a skills training on manufacturing of detergent powder, dish washing liquid soap and basic entrepreneurship were extended to the PWDs by the city in the past.

In cooperation with the Social Welfare and Development Office, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Bohol Federation of People with Disability and the Association of Differently-Abled Persons of Tagbilaran City, the skills development project seeks to empower the PWDs in the city.

The city government has allocated P300,000 for Special Education (SPED) project under the Special Education Fund (SEF) in Tagbilaran City Schools. 

Additionally, the city government provided a commercial space for free to the visually-impaired masseurs of Tagbilaran City in the Integrated Bus Terminal, the report adds.

Moreover, a massage training was conducted to 50 PWDs under the project initiated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the same report concluded.
