Valencia celebrates 151st Foundation Day

The Municipal Government of Valencia is appreciative of all people who joined the municipality in its commemoration of the town’s 151st Foundation Day on October 27, 2020 sans the usual funfare and revelries. This is according to a report from the Office of the Valencia Mayor received by The Bohol Tribune on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020.

The commemoration started with a thanksgiving mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Johnson Inte and attended by a limited number of attendees consisting of Barangay Captains, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairmen, and Local Government Unit/National Offices officials and employees and led by the municicpal mayor.

After the Holy Mass, Mayor Maria Katrina Lim delivered her Foundation Day message focusing on the observance of health protocols, struggles on the effects brought about by this pandemic and her appeal to all barangay and local officials not to waver from their pursuit for town’s development.

The mayor emphasized that the town has a lot of reasons to thank for as Valencia remains to be Coronavirus disease-free.

After the Mayor’s speech, the awarding ceremonies for the annual Search of Outstanding Farmers in various categories followed.

Cash incentive and plaques of recognition were distributed to seven (7) farmers who excelled in the production of rice, corn, vegetable, root crops, cutflower, livestock and fishery.

One of the highlights of the celebration was a tree planting activity led by the the SK chairmen of the town, Kagawad Michael Sancho Namoc.

In this connection, ninety-five (95) seedlings of fruit trees of various species were planted at the perimeter of the newly acquired lot at Barangay Taytay that would be the proposed site of the Municipal Sanitary Landfill. The trees will act as buffer for the area which is the location of the proposed sanitary landfill.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lim led the distribution of food packs to each household in the thirty-five (35) barangays of the town. In this activity, the Mayor was joined in the food pack distribution by the entire membership of the Sangguniang Bayan with its Presiding Officer, Vice Mayor Alix Garcia. The food distribution program is an initiative of the local government unit of Valencia as part of the 151st Foundation Day celebration.

The funds supposedly allotted for the Foundation Day celebration of the LGU were used for the to purchase food stuff that were distributed to each household in the town. The food pack distribution is the third wave of assistance to town folks who are impacted by the pandemic.
