Points for Reflection: I am sharing to my dear readers a story which has been a part of my collections to help you reflect as the Universal Church celebrates the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Times – A .

In the waiting area of purgatory, the souls were grouped according to their nationalities. Then, the voice of an angel boomed through the speakers: “Attention, heaven-bound passengers, your plane will leave at exactly 12:00 noon.”

Since the departure area was quite far from the waiting area, most of the passengers—Japanese, Americans, Germans—started to proceed though it was still early. When the saw the Filipinos still slouching in their seats, the other nationalities asked them, “Aren’t you guys going to heaven?”

“Yes, we are,” the Filipinos answered. “But how come you’re still there sitting?” was the question heard by the Filipinos. “Don’t worry about us,” the Filipinos replied. “Our time—Filipino time, as it is called—is different from yours. We are used to going to our appointments one hour late.”

Thus, when all the passengers started to proceed to the departure area, the Filipinos remained on their seats, chatting. Finally, after one hour, they decided to go to the departure area and board the heaven-bound plane. Reaching the departure area, their tardiness resulted into a bitter consequence: the heaven-bound plane had left. There were no other flights available.

Filipino time will not bring us to heaven. (Scent of a Filipino, Bro. Andrew Maria, MMHC).
