Tagbilaran announces current affairs and events

Tagb launches livelihood program

City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II aims to harness the potentials of the Tagbilaranons.

This is the reason that tomorrow Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, this pursuit would be realized as the Bangon ug Abante sa Bag-ong Asenso Livelihood Program would be officially launched.

This initiative is a three (3)-year livelihood project of the city, which targets to utilize, empower, maximize, and enhance the capability of interested Tagbilaranons by providing them with the needed skills training in dressmaking and tailoring and eventually encourage them to venture into a garment manufacturing business.

The objective of the project is to provide an opportunity to the Tagbilaranons to earn a decent income and improve their economic status.

The first year of the project would be devoted to beneficiary identification, profiling, social preparation, and skills training activities.

The second and third years will focus on the organization and strengthening of the cooperative and the actual manufacturing business operation and enterprise development.

To date, the beneficiaries have already undergone social preparatory training sessions under the facilitation of the program’s partner university, University of Bohol, in Values Formation Education, Responsible Parenthood, Reproductive Health Education, Gender Sensitivity and Development, and Financial Management Operation.

Next in line is the skills training in dressmaking and tailoring and these will be facilitated by the Bohol Island State University (BISU) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Moreover, Yap said this could open new opportunities to Tagbilaranons.

“We want to have the best cutter, sewer, and apparel designer in the future. This livelihood project could open new windows of opportunities and endless possibilities”, Yap added

The United States Agency for International Development-Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth and Equity’s (USAID SURGE) project also helped establish Tagbilaran City’s newest initiative.

First Consolidated Bank (FCB) with Argeo Melisimo will be the partner and conduit in the implementation of the project.

Furthermore, the plan is to organize the beneficiaries to form a cooperative. It is hoped that this endeavor create a garments manufacturer which could produce high quality cloth-based products in the province and in the whole country.

READY TO HELP IN THE FIGHT VS. COVID. The city has a system that will make contact tracing efforts easier with the use of technology.

LGU-Tagb launches QR code program for easier contact tracing

The local government unit (LGU) of Tagbilaran launches its own quick response (QR) code to make contact tracing easier as the city government taps technology to contain the spread of the Coronavirus disease (Covid). According to the report of the City Media Bureau on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, the registration for residents to get their QR codes started on Nov. 12, 2020.

The program is pursuant to Executive Order No. 41 series of 2020 issued by Mayor John Geesnell Yap II.

The program is spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRMMO) aiming to help streamline the contact tracing process for confirmed Covid patients by using digital technology to identify possible close contacts, eliminating our traditional health declaration forms.

The declaration forms will be replaced by digital logs which will be created when a person enters public or private establishments in the city using the QR code.

The registration to the said system is also happening in all the 15 barangays of the city, the report from the City Media Bureau says.

The registration is being facilitated with the help of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) contact tracing team.

A registration kiosk is also located in the New Tagbilaran City Hall.

The City Media Bureau adds that Tagbilaranons aged 15 years old and older will be provided each with a QR code.

The presentation of the QR code replaces the process of manually filling out a health declaration form when entering a public or private establishment. An employee of the establishment will scan the QR code prior to the visitor’s entry. The establishment’s employee will use a capable smartphone for QR code scanning.

After the scan, the information will be sent to a database storing data about a person’s movement within the city. The information stored in the database gives an idea to the contact tracers if a person has been in contact with a confirmed Covid patient at a particular place and time.

Moreover, the system also flags individuals who are under quarantine so they will be denied entry into establishments.

The system will send an alert to the establishment‘s employee whether a person should be denied entry or not.

The program will issue an ID card to a registrant featuring the image of the QR code. The City Media Bureau in its report reveals that a person who wishes to enter an establishment in the city needs not bring the ID.

A person may store a photo of the QR code in his/her smartphone and will show the photo of the QR code upon entering the establishment, the City Media Bureau bares in its report sent to The Bohol Tribune.

The contact tracing system is developed by Revosys, a Tagbilaran-based technology developer.

Furthermore, Yap said that the program is a major leap towards adjusting to the new normal.

“The QR code would help us in our fight against Covid. By observing strict health protocols like wearing our masks, washing our hands, and observing physical distancing. Fear cannot paralyze us, we can move with caution and engage in transactions, giving our businesses the much-needed boost”, Yap said.
