Maribojoc’s support boosts chances of Cebu-Bohol power link realization

The support being thrown by the town officials of Maribojoc to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is seen as a major boost to the realization of the Cebu-Bohol interconnection project being initiated by NGCP, itself.
The interconnection project of the NGCP is eyed to be a milestone in providing stable power to Bohol, whose power demands are increasing due to its growing population and economy.
In a report sent to The Bohol Tribune, yesterday, Nov. 14, 2020, by the Office of First District representative of Bohol, Cong. Edgar Chatto, it was learned that the congressman lauds the leadership of Maribojoc Mayor Romulo Manuta in the implementation of the Cebu-Bohol Power Interconnection Project (CBIP).
The first district solon expressed his reaction during the distribution of wages for beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program in the said town.
Moreover, he highlighted importance of coordination of agencies and local government units (LGU) in the implementation of projects that will benefit a great number of people in the province.
As this developed, Chatto expressed his appreciation to Manuta and other town officials for their support to the project.
The NGCP, earlier, communicated to Chatto its scheduled meeting with Manuta to conduct an ocular site inspection of the proposed cable landing and cable terminal station in the said town.
In earlier meetings with Gov. Arthur Yap and Chatto to iron out the details, NGCP vowed to apply engineering solutions needed to ensure the preservation of Maribojoc’s tourism sites and attractions.
For his part, Manuta has committed to designate a focal person who will coordinate with the NGCP team in relation to the CBIP.
A process known as public scoping is also set to be conducted to allow stakeholders to discuss concerns regarding the project, which will be incorporated in the preparation of the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA).
The results of a baseline study of affected marine components will also be presented to the LGU through a public hearing.
According to the reports, efforts are in place to fast track the project amid growing power demand in the province.
The Cebu-Bohol redundancy link is seen as best solution to address the province’s increasing power needs while waiting for power supply procurement of 1 Bohol Power, which is composed of the distribution utilities (DU) in Bohol—Bohol Electric Cooperative 1&2 and Bohol Light Company, Inc.
As revealed earlier, the power supply contracts of DU in Bohol will end in December 2023, the report from Chatto’s office says.
