First district Rep. Edgar Chatto and two (2) other representatives are hopeful that their bill, calling for the declaration of climate emergency, will be approved on second reading in the House of the Representatives.
This was disclosed by Chatto in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020 over “Newsmakers ug Uban Pa” hosted by the mother and son tandem of Ardy and Chandymar Araneta Batoy.
Chatto said he is one of the authors of the bill calling for the declaration of climate emergency. The other authors are Rep. Loren Legarda of Antique and Rep. Joey Salceda of Albay.
Bohol’s first district solon said that there is a need to declare a climate emergency as an urgent call to urge the people to be more aware and do something with the impact of climate change and to seek climate justice especially to vulnerable countries to climate change.
Chatto delivered a privilage speech on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, to emphasize the need to call for climate emergency in the country.
The Philippines is one of the countries heavily impacted by climate change. The country has been battered by supertyphoons, which are seen as direct results of climate change.
Just recently, typhoons Rolly and Ulysses brought havoc to several places in the country.
Chatto said it is high time for the people to realize the climate change problem is an emergency where there is a need to create drastic steps to mitigate its impact especially to a country like the Philippines.
