Matang ug Han-ay sa Bató

Ang atong pinulongang Binisayâ aduna nay daghang mga lugpong (terms) kabahin sa heyolohíya (geology) nga dili natò sinatì tungod kay walâ man kini pagatun-i sa tulunghaan.

Atong tukibon ang diyotay lang nga mga pulong tungod kay dilì man natò maahom ang tanan.

Mga Lugpong:

  1. bagangbáng – A kind of stone in the sea that is good for making lime.
  2. bató – The general term for stone. *dakóng bató = rock, boulder, ligatíng = rocks that protrudes at the side of cliffs.
  3. batóng-bangilán – Touchstone. A stone for testing the fineness of gold and silver. Also, batóng-sanghidán.
  4. batong pamág-ang – Cornerstone; the base stone of an arch made of bricks. (Kp: bató- ganáhan = keystone)
  5. batóng-sanghidán – Touchstone. A stone for testing the fineness of gold and silver. Also, batóng-bangilán
  6. batong-tiúnay – Igneous rock
  7. batungáy – [BATo + sUNGAY = BATUNGAY] 1. Outcrop, a large outcrop of stone or rock that looks like a hill. (Kp: ligatíng; ilí; dakídkid). 2. A large independent stone or rock that looks like a hill. (Kp: bod; búlod) 3. Megalith.
  8. binagóng – A kind of coral stone with plenty of holes.
  9. bugá – Pumice stone.
  10. bukubukó sa anáy – Anticline; the crest of a land formation inclining downward on both sides from a median line or axis.
  11. búngtod – 1. Hill, whether on land or under the sea (Kp: mutó). 2. A promontory of rock or cliff with a flat crown as seen at sea. (Kp: katárman). 2. Mesa. Also, taúndok.
  12. butáy – Saddle-backed; a land formation that looks like a saddle. It usually refers to the concave formation near the top of adjacent hills where passage is possible.
  13. dapanás – 1. Flat, plain rock. Also, panás. 2. Flagstone, a flat stone that could be used for pavement. 3. Hardpan.
  14. duáson nga bató – Metamorphic rock.
  15. dúkol – Potter’s wheel.
  16. granáte (Sp: granate). Garnet, a precious stone similar to a ruby. Also, garnáte (Kp: trabúngko).
  17. guáng – 1. Boulder; large stone or rock that is not attached to the ground. (Kp: bato; dakóng bató). 2. Breccia; a rock made up of angular fragments embedded in material of the same nature (Kp: talinugók).
  18. gusápgusáp – Ashlar, a roughhewn block of stone.
  19. guwang – A high pointed rock dedicated as an altar, high place; cairn; altar. (Kp: altár; gulánggulang; halarán; báwno)
  20. igdal nga bató – Stalagmite, a rock formation formed at the ground of a cave or cavern. (Kp: gátaw nga bató).
  21. ilí (Arabic: ali – aloft). 1. A hill or mountain with a cave where people can take refuge during invasions. Also, ilihán (Kp tagoánan; tawnanán). 2. A rock with an escarpment. (Kp: ligatíng)
  22. ínglì – Rock salt; halite. (Kp: asín; sagála).
  23. karbúngko (Sp: carbunclo). Carbuncle: a kind of precious stone. Also, trabúngko.
  24. láka – Landslide or rock slide of large proportion (Kp: dahílì).
  25. lanaybató – Magma; molten plastic mass of rock material.
  26. líbhò – Syncline. (Kp: luhób).
  27. ligatíng – Crag; mountain crag, large rock that protrudes at the side of the mountain or cliff. (Kp: batungáy; ilí).
  28. lungkayáb – 1. Adit; the entrance or a mine or cave. 2. The space in a cave, especially near the entrance. 3. Arcade; the space underneath roofing or overhanging cliff; stoa. 4. Archway; an entrance or passage under an arch. Also, lungkajáb.
  29. malapíong duáson nga bató (b.p. lápi: duas, bató). Schist, shist; a kind of metamorphic rock that readily splits into parallel layers.
  30. manunggól – A kind of corral stone. It is a good source of lime. It was formerly extensively used for building construction as stone bricks.
  31. nugók – Eluvium, a deposit of soil and dust particles resting where they were formed by the decomposition of rock masses. (Kp: talinugók)
  32. pánas – A plain rock surface that is bare, wide, and usually slippery. The rock surface could be either in a horizontal or vertical position. Also, dapanás; palanás.
  33. pangpáng – Cliff, precipice. Also, pangháy.
  34. pulò-púlò (b.p. púlò). Similar to an island; not a true island or islet, as a big rock in the water. Also, pungbató.
  35. pungás – Inaccessible mountain, cliff, or rock that is almost impossible to climb.
  36. putyukánon (b.p putyúkan). A kind of coral stone in the sea that has subdivisions similar to a beehive.
  37. símà –  A barb-like land or rock formation, usually with a spring. (Kp: dúlho).
  38. tadlíp – Cornelian stone, a kind of agate stone that is somewhat transparent. Its color is commonly reddish but others are orange colored. It is considered a precious stone. (Kp: ákì; lasáy).
  39. talinugók (b.p. nugók). Sedimentary rock. A kind of stone. (Kp: guáng).
  40. tampapáw nga bató – Capstone, copestone; the top stone in a wall or column.
  41. wág-as – Ore; lode; prospect; natural substance or rock that contains valuable metal. (Kp: agubángà)
