Doctor, infant, more Boholanos test positive for Covid

A doctor working in Jagna and a 9-month old infant from Lila are among those who are now  positive for Coronavirus disease (Covid). The news comes as there is a spike in the number of Covid cases in the province.

The news of a doctor who contracted the infectious disease was confirmed by Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez, spokesman of the Bohol Inter Agency Task Force (BIATF) during the virtual press conference on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020.

On the other hand, the information of an infant who got infected with the viral disease was confirmed by Lila town mayor Arturo Jed Piollo in a Facebook post also on Friday.

As of Friday, the total Covid cases in Bohol reached 88 from a low of 38 cases early last week.

Moreover, Tagbilaran City also saw, last week, a surge in Covid cases. Mayor John Geesnell Yap II reported that there are 24 new covid positive cases including nine (9) cases touted to be on a community transmission status.

COVID-INFECTED DOCTOR

Lopez did not divulge further details when he was asked by the media about the report of a doctor getting infected by the virus.

In a follow-up telephone interview yesterday, Lopez said that as far as he can remember, this is the first time a physician is infected by Covid.

He added that the doctor is working in a hospital in Jagna town.

Moreover, the representative of the Department of Health (DOH) TJ Colyer confirmed in the same virtual press conference that there are three (3) healthcare workers in the province currently infected with Covid. He also said that the 3 healthcare workers are in stable condition with two (2) showing no symptoms of the disease. Colyer refused to bare the location of the infected healthcare workers.

INFANT GETS COVID

In a post, Piollo revealed a case of community transmission in Bohol  involving a 9-month-old infant in Lila town.

The mayor said that the baby is currently admitted in a hospital in Tagbilaran City. The mayor added that the baby is a resident of purok 5, barangay Nagsulay of Lila town.

“Ato na nga gipahimutang sa granular lockdown ang mga paninalay nga duol sa residensya sa maong bata. Naghimo na usab kita ug contact tracing sa mga possible contacts sa maong pasyente,” the mayor added.

As this developed, the mayor said that 10 of the town’s frontliners from the Rural Health Unit (RHU) are considered to be direct contacts of the said infant. The frontliners are in quarantine, prompting the local government unit (LGU) to close the RHU office for disinfection, Piollo mentioned in his post.

The mayor also said in his post: “Tungod sa kakulangon sa atong mga medical health workers, aduna kita’y mga serbisyong medikal nga dili pa nato mahatag pagkakaron. Manghinaot ko sa inyong pagsabot ug kooperasyon sa karon nga panahon.”

BOHOL’s COVID DEATH TOLL REACHES 14

In a related development, Covid death toll in Bohol rises to 14 after two (2) more persons died in relation to the dreaded disease.

According to Provincial Planning and Development Officer John Titus Vistal, one of the patients died in a hospital in Ubay, while the other patient died in a hospital in Tagbilaran City.

Vistal made the revelation during the regular virtual press conference at the Capitol on Friday, where he presented Gov. Arthur Yap’s press statement.

He said that one of the patients died at the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital (DEDVMH) in Ubay town. The one who died in Ubay was an 81-year-old woman from barangay Son-oc, Ubay. She died of septic shock due to infected wounds secondary to polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-confirmed Covid infection, the report said.

On the other hand, the patient who died at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) in Tagbilaran was a 64-year-old woman from Panglao. According to reports, the fatality hailed from Panglao’s barangay Bil-isan. The woman reportedly succumbed to various ailments particularly non-productive cough and acute renal failure secondary to PCR-confirmed Covid infection. Vistal, on behalf of the provincial governor, relayed sympathies to the bereaved family of the two fatalities.
