27 out 31 barangays in Balilihan are deemed drug-cleared

About 27 out of 31 barangays in Balilihan town are declared to be drug-cleared based on the declaration of the regional oversight committee, according to a report from Capitol media.

This comes as barangay Cantomimbo is declared as drug-cleared by the regional oversight committee.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) provincial officer Joseph Theodore Atilla presented the certificate of being drug-cleared to barangay Cantomimbo to the barangay officials in an event on December 2, 2020 at the Balilihan municipal gymnasium.

The presentation of the certificate was witnessed by Board Member Ricky Masamayor, chairman of the committee on peace and order at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Tito Libatona, the chairman of the committee on peace and order at the Balilihan town council, the report adds.

With the development, only four (4) barangays, Cabad, Candasig, Datag Norte and Del Carmen Weste remain as the areas yet to be declared as drug-cleared barangays.

According to PDEA officials, the remaining barangays need to comply with a few requirements in order to secure the declaration of being drug-cleared, the same report bares.

Moreover, the PDEA together with other agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of Education (DepEd) comprise the regional oversight committee which determines if a particular barangay is drug-cleared, the Capitol media report explains.
