Understanding Porcelain Crowns

For a nice looking smile, one can opt to use porcelain crowns where dental porcelain can be formed to look like the natural look of a tooth enamel.

Porcelain crowns are used as a means to help the damage tooth regain strength  as a crown replaces the entire external portion of the tooth down to the gum level.

Crowns don’t only replace the tooth but also provide a better-looking smile.

There are two reasons to opt for dental crowns, which are:

  1.  for the restoration of a damaged tooth
  2.  for cosmetic reasons.

The dentist will determine if you need to get some dental crowns or not.

Porcelain dental crowns are meant to replace the exterior portion of a tooth. It is also meant to regain its original function and to create a natural appearance of the tooth.

Crowns are often used by dentists when tooth decay is present, or due to trauma, or when there is significant enamel erosion.

People who grind and clench their teeth causing damage may also opt to get dental crowns.

Porcelain dental crowns are able to replicate the original tooth function and may be able to make the tooth look better than the original.

A porcelain dental crown may hide a flaw in the teeth.

Porcelain dental crowns need some laboratory time before it can be made and fitted to the mouth of a patient.

Expect your dentist, to fit you with a temporary crown for some time, while waiting for the permanent crowns.

There are some patients who may experience sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures after the attachment of porcelain crowns.

While porcelain crowns are durable, patients need to avoid certain foods to prevent damage to the crowns.

Check with your dentist today to see whether or not you need to be fitted with porcelain dental crowns.
