6-month-old baby from Sagbayan dies due to dehydration, Covid

A six (6)-month old female infant from Sagbayan dies and becomes the 16th fatality related to Coronavirus disease (Covid).

Bohol Inter Agency Task Force (BIATF) spokesman Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez revealed in a virtual presser on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 that the child died due to acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration due to diarrhea. She was also positive of the polymerase chain reaction test (PCR) for Covid.

The child was brought to the Simeon Torribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen town for treatment and expired in the said hospital.

Lopez said that the parents of the child are now isolated and the swab samples have already been submitted to the laboratory including the specimen of each of the baby’s close contacts.

Lopez added that the results may be released soon.

Moreover, the spokesman said that the local rural health unit and the provincial health office are probing how the infant contracted the virus.

The child is the youngest fatality due to Covid in Bohol. The previous youngest fatality in Bohol was a 2-year-old child from Buenavista town.
