Fixing a chipped tooth

Tooth bonding is being utilized in different scenarios but often being used in repairing chipped tooth or teeth.

The bonding materials (high-density, space-age plastics called composite resin) and porcelain are considered to be natural looking in color and can be used to perfectly match the color of the surrounding teeth, which makes it harder to know if there is a chipped or broken tooth.

Transitional bonding is known to be utilized for anything from a mock-up to a full-mouth rehabilitation.

It is transitional because it allows the patient to transition towards a more permanent treatment procedure. It also allows the dentist to work on other problems and issues related to aesthetics.

Transitional bonding is a great tool for a cosmetic dentist.

It is possible for the dentist to use a dental crown to fix a chipped tooth.

The dentist may use a tooth colored crown made from porcelain or zirconia.

The material should be durable and strong enough to withstand the clenching force.

It is best to know that the dental crown will cover the entire tooth.

A partial crown may be installed if the chip in the tooth is not extensive. A partial crown is known as an onlay.

An onlay is a type of restoration or filling that covers one or more cusps.

Moreover, an inlay, on the other hand, is similar to a filling but is located within the perimeter of a tooth’s chewing surface.

Inlay and outlay are considered to be more conservative and will hide any imperfections of the broken tooth.

Porcelain veneers are also used to repair chipped teeth.

Porcelain laminate veneers are thin layers of ceramic.

The veneers are bonded using a special adhesive to repair the original teeth enamel and restore the look of the chipped tooth.
