House panel OKs Tutor’s PWD pension bill

A House panel approves the bill filed by Bohol third district representative Kristine Alexie Tutor providing a pension system for persons with disabilities (PWD).

The House committee on PWD, chaired by Negros Occidental Rep. Ma. Lourdes Arroyo, approved the measure, House Bill (HB) 7571 or the PWD Financial Resilience Act, in a virtual committee meeting on Friday, Dec. 15, 2020.

The bill seeks to institutionalize a pension program for all registered PWD on top of the present government assistance program for them.

In the bill, Tutor proposes to provide P1,000 pension per month and could be disbursed either monthly, quarterly, or annually.

It will be the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that will be disbursing the cash benefit for the PWD.

Moreover, the bill is co-authored by Arroyo and first district Rep. Edgar Chatto.

Chatto is the vice-chairperson of the Committee on PWD.

According to Tutor, the measure will then be presented to the Committee on Appropriations for further deliberations.
