1st Dist. Rep.’s office comes out with this week’s record of events

Cong. Edgar Chatto (extreme right, 3rd row, horizontal) addresses 20 scholars of Caregiver NC II course at Fil-Canadian Training and Development Center for Caregivers-Bohol. Chatto facilitated the scholarship program for first district beneficiaries under the Training Scholarship for Work Program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).  In his speech, he told the scholars, “Being excellent at a choice of skill is an important component of success.” The solon addressed the scholars in a virtual meeting on Dec. 18, 2020.

House committee approves Arroyo-Chatto authored HB 5896
The House Committee on Persons with Disability (PWD) okays House Bill (HB) No. 5896 or the proposed Universal Accessibility Act.
The HB is authored by Negros Occidental Rep. Ma. Lourdes Arroyo and Bohol Rep. Edgar Chatto.
Incidentally, the committee chair is Arroyo and the vice-chair is Chatto.
The proposed measure seeks to provide the mandate for the application of universal design principles, standards and policies for the creation of barrier-free environments, transportation and tourism facilities to ensure and enhance the dignity, independence, mobility, safety as well as convenience of PWDs, senior citizens, women, children and other sectors.
The bill seeks to amend the Batas Pambansa (BP) 344 or the Accessibility Law.
Chatto explained that several provisions and specifications in BP 344 are no longer adequate to meet the needs of persons with orthopedic disabilities, the elderly, women and children in these times.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, PhilHealth, Commission on Higher Education Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education and the National Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office expressed support for the proposed measure.

DoH execs visit Bohol to inspect priority project sites

Officials of the Department of Health (DOH) visited Bohol to inspect priority project sites of the said department.
First district Cong. Edgar Chatto hosted a dinner for the visiting officials of the DoH.
In a post on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, the congressman’s wife Balilihan mayor Pureza Chatto said that the priority projects aim to strengthen Bohol’s health system.
Mayor Chatto said the top officials of the said department who paid a visit to Bohol are DoH chief of the health facility expansion program Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, head of the DoH legal office, Atty. Charade Mercado Grande, and former Health Secretary now DoH consultant Dr. Paulyn Jean Ubial.
Moreover, the team from the DoH was accompanied by the medical center chief of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH), Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno.
Among the priority projects discussed during the meeting, according to Mayor Pureza, are the ongoing modernization and expansion of the GCGMH in Tagbilaran City and in Cortes town, proposed dialysis center at the Tubigon Community Hospital, and the future site of the Bohol Island State University College of Medicine, where the college’s building inside the GCCMH compound is now in phase 2 of its construction.
