PPA: Bidding for Ubay port PTB, office construction set in Jan. 2021

The port manager of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reveals that the bidding for the construction of the P87 million passenger terminal building (PTB) and port office inside the Ubay port is slated next month.

This is the revelation of PPA Bohol port manager Engr. James Gantalao in a telephone interview yesterday, Dec. 26, 2020, with The Bohol Tribune.

Gantalao said the PTB will have a capacity of at least 1,000 passengers.

The PTB is touted to be one of the largest PTBs in Bohol and the bidding for its construction will be facilitated by PPA officials based in Manila, Gantalao bared.

He added that, barring last minute hitches, the bidding for the PTB construction and the port office is slated on Jan. 12, 2020.

The new PTB will also feature an isolation room and other amenities that are needed to control the spread of the Coronavirus disease (Covid).

In the invitation to bid posted by the PPA on its website, the project is expected to be completed within 450 calendar days.

Meanwhile, Gantalao sald that prior to the Covid pandemic, at least two (2) shipping lines expressed interest to open new routes.

Cokaliong Shipping Lines and Lite Shipping are said to have expressed interest in opening the Cebu-Ubay-Surigao route but the plans got stalled due to the pandemic.
