United Kingdom (UK) prime minister Boris Johnson warns that his government might impose stricter anti-Coronavirus disease (Covid) measures as the country battles a surge in cases.
In an interview on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, over British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC), Johnson was asked whether or not the restrictions currently imposed are enough to control the surge of Covid in England.
There are some areas in United Kingdom where the hospitals are already almost filled with Covid patients, the president of the Royal College of Physicians Andrew Goddard said.
Johnson said that there could be a need to impose stricter restrictions with the surge in the cases affecting his country.
However, the Prime Minster refused to divulge what measures will be imposed in the next few days to arrest the spike in the number of Covid cases.
Keir Starman, leader of the main opposition party Labour Party, said on Sunday that there is a need for a national lockdown to be imposed in the next 24 hours.
Moreover, UK health workers are preparing to reactivate seven (7) emergency Covid field hospitals across England as regular hospitals are filled with patients infected with the new Covid strain.
The UK recorded 54,990 Covid cases on Sunday alone, according to CNN.
