Tagb bags finalist’s spot in DSWD’s Panata-Gapas award

Tagbilaran City bags a finalist’s spot in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)’s search for Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon sa Bayan (Panata)-Gawad sa Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan (Gapas), the only local government unit (LGU) in the Visayas considered for the national award, a report from the City Media Bureau said.

Tagbilaran City is shortlisted as finalist for supporting the advocacies, thrusts and priorities of DSWD’s sustainable livelihood program (SLP).

The city government is also cited for creating a conducive and enabling social economic environment for the SLP beneficiaries.

Moreover, the Panata-Gapas awards is a way to recognize a local government unit (LGU) which is successful in implementing the various programs and services of the DSWD, like the SLP and micro-enterprise and employment facilitation models.

The validators from the DSWD also cited LGU Tagbilaran’s consultative and collaborative efforts specifically on policy support, implementation and advocacy, technical assistance, and monitoring in the conduct and implementation of DSWD‘s programs.

The strong coordination among the City Social Welfare Office (CSWDO), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), City Mayor’s Office (CMO), and SLP Livelihood Focal Office in terms of accommodating all employment facilitation matters was recognized as a good practice.

Likewise, the consistent allocation of funds to be used for job employment facilitation was also considered as one of Tagbilaran City’s strengths. The annual job fairs, expos, and special recruitment activities facilitated by the Tagbilaran City’s PESO was also commended by the DSWD validators.

AWARD FOR COVID-19 EFFORTS. The administration of City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II is recognized by the Central Visayan Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The recognition is for the  selfless service and exemplary leadership during this Coronavirus disease (Covid) pandemic through strict implementation of health and safety protocols.
