More than 82K Tagbilaranons secure QR code from city gov’t

At least 82,983 Tagbilaranons are able to secure their respective quick response (QR) codes as 13,563 individuals coming from other towns in the province registered to get their own QR codes from the city government.

The data is accurate as of 3:15 pm of January 7, 2021, the report from the City Media Bureau says.

The QR codes will be used for contact tracing purposes, tracking the movement of people as they enter in densely-populated places such as government offices, malls and public markets.

This initiative is pursuant to Executive Order No. 41 Series of 2020 signed by Mayor John Geesnell Yap II and implemented through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

This QR code system will help streamline the contact tracing activity especially the close contacts of confirmed Coronavirus disease (Covid) patients, using digital technology and getting rid of the paper health declaration forms.

Instead of filling out forms upon entering public or private establishments, persons just need to have their QR codes scanned and the data will be automatically stored in a data base.

The data stored in the data base will show the places a person, identified as a confirmed Covid patient, and use the data to trace other persons who may be considered as close contacts of the Covid patient.

Moreover, the system also flags individuals who are under quarantine and still able to loiter and enter establishments.

The QR code can be stored in your mobile phone or printed on an ID card, the City Media Bureau in its release says.

Mayor Yap said that this is a major leap towards adjusting to the new normal.

“The QR code would help us in our fight against Covid. By observing strict health protocols like wearing our masks, washing our hands, and observing physical distancing, and QR codes, we can proceed with our daily transactions. This will assure customers they can visit and transact with establishments without any risks. Aside from facilitating faster contact tracing, these QR codes can give our businesses the much-needed boost”, Yap said.

The CDRRMO already deployed 448 verifier apps to business establishments within Tagbilaran.

Moreover, QR codes registration is currently taking place in City Hall grounds and in designated stations in the 15 barangays of the clty.

Tagbilaranons aged 15 years old and up may secure a QR code.

The contact tracing system is developed by Revosys, a Tagbilaran-based developer.

A Memorandum of Agreement was forged between the City Government and Revosys for the use of the system.
