98-year-old man dies in a fire incident

A report releases the information that a 98-year-old bedridden man, who is unable to escape from a fire that broke out in his room, dies.  

The report adds that the fire incident was discovered on Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 2021, and the man died due to severe burns and possible smoke suffocation. 

The report also says that allegedly the victim’s cigarette smoking caused the fire.

The victim is identified as Juan Boquit, of barangay Sta. Filomena, Alburquerque town and reports add that, allegedly the victim’s cigarette smoking caused the fire. 

Based on the initial investigation, Bosquit possibly was unable to properly dispose  of his cigarette butt, which burned, first, a portion of his blanket, starting a fire that occurred while the victim was asleep.

The victim’s burned body was discovered by the victim’s niece when the latter visited the former, to bring some food for his breakfast.

The niece alerted the authorities but the emergency responders declared the victim already dead, the report narrates.

According to the niece, the man lived alone. The victim was known to be a regular smoker and often threw away the cigarette butts outside through a window a little away from his bed.
