The victim is identified as Juan Boquit, of barangay Sta. Filomena, Alburquerque town and reports add that, allegedly the victim’s cigarette smoking caused the fire.

Based on the initial investigation, Bosquit possibly was unable to properly dispose  of his cigarette butt, which burned, first, a portion of his blanket, starting a fire that occurred while the victim was asleep.
