1 dies, 1 gets hurt in Dauis road accident

One person dies and another person is hurt after their motorcycles engaged in a head-on collision along a national highway in Dauis, police reports say.

The accident took place on Monday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2021, the same report coming from Camp Dagohoy bares.

The police identified the fatality as Rico James Caliniahan, 20. He was brought to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) but was declared dead on arrival.

The other victim of the accident is identified as Dexter Nistal, 23, of barangay Catarman, Dauis. He was also brougt to the GCGMH for medical treatment, the report further reveals.

Based on initial investigation, Nistal was driving his motorcycle from Tabalong heading towards Totolan. Upon reaching the portion of the national highway near a gas station, Nistal made an overtaking maneuver and went into the opposite lane where he collided with the motorcycle driven by Caliniahan who was traveling from Tabalalong procerding to Totolan.

After the collision, Caliniahan crashed on the concrete road while Nistal crashed on the concrete fence of a tennis court nearby, the report says.

It was further reported that Caliniahan was wearing his protective helmet when the accident happened, as Nistal allegedly was not wearing any helmet.
