PENRO to assist LGU Guindulman on its solid waste woes

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Charlie Fabre expressed readiness to assist the local government unit (LGU) of Guindulman regarding its solid waste management issues.

This comes as the regional executive director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Paquito Melicor Jr., issued an order closing the existing dumpsite in Guindulman town.

In a radio interview over Open Forum program on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado, PENRO Charlie Fabre revealed the readiness of the DENR to help Guindulman solve its solid waste woes.

He said the DENR will provide options to the LGU to prevent waste disposal problems from becoming worse.

The DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) conducted an assessment on the dumpsite last year and sent advisories to the LGU to comply with an order to rehabilitate the said open dumpsite.

Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 prohibits the operation of open dumpsites in the country.
