PD taps Luna as new Dauis COP

Bohol Police Provincial Director (PD) Col. Joselito Clarito taps Capt. Gerald Luna as the new chief of police (COP) of Dauis town replacing Lt. Bonifacio Tañola.

Luna will be formally assuming his post tomorrow, Feb. 8, 2021, the PD told The Bohol Tribune in an exclusive telephone interview.

On the other hand, Tañola is in isolation as he tested positive for Coronavirus disease (Covid) after arriving from his Cebu trip.

He will be assigned to Camp Francisco Dagohoy after completing his quarantine, Clarito said. Clarito added that Tañola will not anymore be going back as Chief of Police in Dauis town.

The provincial director said that he already ordered an investigation on the allegations thatTañola violated health and safety protocols following his arrival in Bohol from Cebu.

“I already ordered an investigation on the [former] chief of police ng Dauis na nag positive [sa Covid],” Clarito said in the telephone interview.

The relief of Tañola comes at the wake of personnel from the Dauis police station contracting the Covid disease after the arrival of Tañola from his Cebu trip

Yesterday afternoon, Feb. 6, 2021, Mayor Marietta Sumaylo reported another one of Tañola’s first generation contacts who tested positive for Covid bringing the total of police station personnel infected with the Covid virus to nine (9).

Tañola tested positive for Covid on Jan. 30,2021 after arriving from Cebu, a place where he recently had his schooling activities. .

It was alleged that Tañola was fetched by a non-uniformed personnel (NUP) in Tubigon upon the former’s arrival from Cebu. It was further alleged that from Tubigon, Tañola did not go to his quarantine area, as mandated by the protocol. Instead, It was purported that Tañola went to directly see his men for some instructions. There are also allegations that Tañola went to attend fiesta celebration in one of the houses in a barangay in Dauis. This house allegedly, is where one of his men lives, and the man, eventually is infected with the virus a reason that the house is on a lockdown status now.

The former COP of Dauis, allegedly, after arriving from Cebu, visited his police station prior to his entry into a quarantine facility. This was mentioned by Sumaylo in a radio interview over NEWSMAKERS program on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 hosted by the mother and son tandem of Ardy and Chandymar Araneta-Batoy.
