3 Dauis inmates test positive for Covid

Dauis mayor Marietta Sumaylo confirms that three (3) detainees in the Dauis police station test positive for Coronavirus disease (Covid).

This was confirmed to The Bohol Tribune by Sumaylo in a telephone interview on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021.

About 21 detainees were subjected to swab tests on Wednesday morning, Feb. 24, 2021 and the results were released on Thursday and those infected are asymptomatic, the mayor told The Bohol Tribune.

The three (3) detainees were swabbed as an offshoot to the exposure to some personnel of the Dauis police station who tested positive for Covid.

It can be remembered that the former chief of police of the Dauis police station tested positive for Covid and allegedly infected a total of 25 persons.

The former chief of police drew controversy as he allegedly violated protocol by visiting the Dauis police station right after arriving from his Cebu trip on Jan. 29, 2021 instead of going straight to a quarantine facility after arriving in Bohol.

Moreover, Sumaylo said it took some time to test the inmates as the local government unit prioritized the testing of the first and second generation contacts who are not incarcerated.

The three (3) infected inmates are now isolated in the old custodial facility at the old town hall located in barangay Poblacion.

The Dauis mayor said that the three (3) infected persons could not be placed in the Central Isolation Facility of the province at the Provincial Capitol Annex in barangay Dao, Tagbilaran as they are detainees.

The mayor explained that while there are persons who are holding office in the old town hall, the location of the custodial facility is far from the occupied offices at the town hall.
The Commission on Elections and the Municipal Circuit Trial Court of Dauis-Panglao are occupying the offices at the second floor of the old municipal building of Dauis, Sumaylo told The Bohol Tribune.
